We are a volunteer-run, non-profit rescue based in Paralimni, in the Famagusta district of Cyprus. Here is who we are, what drives us, and who we work with.
Ammochostos Dog Rescuers started the way most grassroots rescues do: a handful of local volunteers who kept encountering strays and abandoned dogs around Paralimni and decided to do something about it. There is no office and no paid staff, just a network of fosters, drivers, vets, and donors who show up whenever a dog needs help.
We are a registered non-profit. We accept rescue intakes, we run the full adoption process ourselves, and we accept both online and bank transfer donations, all of it going straight back into vet bills, food, and shelter costs.
We respond to reports of strays and abandoned dogs across the Ammochostos district and get them somewhere safe, usually within hours of the first call.
Every dog gets a full vet check, vaccinations, neutering or spaying, and deworming before they are ever listed for adoption.
We match each dog with a home that actually fits their temperament and energy, whether that home is in Cyprus or abroad.
We work alongside other Cyprus rescues, including Ella's Blind Cat Sanctuary, so more animals get help than we could reach alone.
Ella's Blind Cat Sanctuary is a fellow Cyprus non-profit based in Vrysoules, caring for blind and otherwise vulnerable rescue cats, including the costly eye treatment many of them need. We cross-promote each other's work and share resources where we can, because Cyprus has far more animals in need than any one rescue can cover alone.
Like us, they run entirely on volunteers and donations. If you love cats as much as dogs, their page is worth a follow too.
Every dog on our Adopt page, every vet bill paid, every festival stall run for the market: none of it happens without the volunteers who give their weekends to this. This site exists because of them as much as for the dogs.
Six real dogs are currently listed with us, each with their own story and their own space waiting to be filled.
